Prerequisites For Enrolling On A PADI Dive Master Course

You will also need to have taken part in a minimum of twenty dives before you begin the PADI Dive Master Course. In order to qualify as a certified Dive Master, you must complete at least sixty dives.

Before you can start training as a Dive Master on a PADI accredited course, you must have passed three other diving related courses. These may be PADI certified courses, or equivalent courses certified by another diving training organization. If you are not sure whether your qualifications are adequate, you should contact PADI or the training center at which you intend to study the Dive Master course in order to check.

The first qualification required for entry onto the Dive Master course is as an advanced course in Open Water diving. This is a course that you can take to increase your diving experience and to bring your existing scuba diving skills up to a more advanced level by undertaking a selection of adventure dives.

Secondly, you must be a qualified Rescue Diver, or have an equivalent non-PADI qualification. This is a challenging course that is absolutely essential, as it will teach you how to reduce risks and handle any problems that occur while you are in the water.

The third qualification that is necessary in order to begin training as a Dive Master with PADI is a first aid certificate as an Emergency First Responder and for Secondary Care. This important knowledge will prepare you to perform first aid and CPR if anyone is hurt on a dive, or indeed at any other time.  You must have passed this training no more than two years before your Dive Master training.

Depending upon your ambitions and interest, you may want to take some other PADI accredited courses that, although not necessary for acceptance onto the PADI Dive Master course, could help you in your professional development. There are courses in boat diving and night diving, for example, as well as training as an underwater naturalist that will help you to recognize and understand the diverse species you come across on your dives.
